|
2008 COMPETITION |
|
In July this year the inaugural competition for secondary school student accompanists will be held in Sydney. It will be known as the “N.S.W. ACCOMPANISTS’ GUILD AWARD” This competition has been set up to encourage and nurture the art of accompaniment throughout the state of N.S.W. Any year 7 to year 12 student pianist with a minimum Grade 7 A.M.E.B standard or equivalent can apply. There will be three rounds held.
ROUND 1 2nd August at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music
Competitors will present a 12-15 minute recital with an instrumentalist and or vocalist in front of a panel. There must be a minimum of two contrasting pieces, the music chosen should showcase both pianistic and ensemble skills. Not all of the programme will necessarily be heard. Music presented must have been originally written for piano. Charts, orchestral reductions and band reductions are not acceptable. The panel reserves the right to disallow inappropriate repertoire. In such a circumstance competitors would be notified as soon as their application forms are received and would be able to submit other repertoire. Competitors should give careful consideration when choosing a vocalist or instrumentalist, as “partnership” is an important aspect of the art of accompanying.
ROUND 2 16th Aug at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music 8 semi-finalists chosen from Round 1 will perform a song with a singer provided by the panel. The music will be sent to the semi-finalists two weeks before the 2nd round performance and they will get 15mins on the day to rehearse with the singer before performing it. They will also be required to perform their entire programme from Round 1. Three finalists will be chosen from this round.
ROUND 3 [FINALS] 1st October at 2MBSFM Studios, St Leonards. 3 finalists will give a live broadcast of their entire programme (without the song from Round 2) The winner chosen from the final three will receive $600.
